The cars of the future at Linas-Montlhéry motor-racing track

As a test centre, UTAC has worked for many years on the evolution of vehicles. It recently added to its facilities a driverless test track in order to fine-tune the vehicles of the future.

Place of all records

We owe the construction of this motor-racing track to the industrialist and inventor, Alexandre Lamblin, whose passion for motorsports led him to build it in 1924.

At a time when the car industry was flourishing and the aim of every car manufacturer was to set new speed records, the speed circuit was an inevitable development. Indeed, it met with instant success.

This motor-racing track has seen many a record smashed, in particular during the period between 1925 and 1939, when 86% of world records were beaten here.

Then in 1933, it became the property of the car manufacturer, Citroën, who installed a testing facility for the brand’s own cars.

As needs evolved, new facilities were added, including the timing tower, grandstand and pit.

In 1946, UTAC, an industrial test laboratory, took over the tracks’ management, eventually gaining ownership much later, in 1973.

In the 2000s, UTAC undertook major renovation work to bring the track up to regulatory standards.

A recent new approval

The speed ring has been approved again since 2010, much to the delight of car and motorbike enthusiasts.
